Let’s get to know Ashley Allen, Digital Communications Coordinator at Roswell Inc.

Q: Describe yourself in 3 words
A: Creative. Optimistic. Outgoing.

Q: What can we find you doing on a day off?
A: You would probably find me with my husband and our three dogs either working on a woodworking project or a craft of some sort. In the winter, I do a lot of crocheting.

Q: Describe your dream vacation?
A: I don’t think that my dream vacation would be a specific place. I love traveling, so I would go just about anywhere. It would be somewhere where the scenery is extremely different from here, for example Alaska, or the mountains, and somewhere where I would gain a lot of experiences.

Q: What’s the most interesting thing about you that we wouldn’t learn from your resume alone?
A: I would say that I am really handy, which most people probably wouldn’t guess. I have done tiling, drywall, and I had a huge garden that I tilled myself.  I like making and doing things by hand.

Q: As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A: As a kid, I wanted to be a lot of different things. When I was really little, I wanted to be a lawyer because I loved to argue, and then as I got older, I started getting into art and drawing. I thought I was going to be a fashion designer, but I am not very good at using a sewing machine, so that didn’t happen.

Q: If you were on an island and could only bring three things, what would you bring?
A: I love survivalist shows. My husband and I watch them all the time. I think I would bring my husband, a fire starter so I can build a fire and cook the food that I am somehow going to gather, and lastly I would bring fishing line.

Q: Where would you go in a time machine?
A: I would probably go back to the 1920s.  I love art deco style … the architecture, the clothing and the music. I think that whole era is very edgy and different from other decades and would be really fun.

Q: What superpower would you like to have?
A: My superpower would be teleporting. I wouldn’t have to get in the car anymore and would be able to travel to all sorts of different countries without having to get on a plane or a boat.

Q: What makes you the happiest?
A: Family. My husband and I are very close with both sides of our family, and we especially love going out of town to visit those who we don’t get to see very often.

Q: What would be your best advice?
A: My best advice would be to know that everything happens for a reason. If you believe that, then nothing can stop you. You will never lose or be defeated, only challenged to learn and overcome.

Q: Describe your role at Roswell Inc?
A: I focus on the digital side. I coordinate our communications with email marketing and social media, as well as do our in-house graphics and things like that.

Q: How would you describe this job to a child?
A: I visually help people understand our business, share ideas, and tell our story.

Q: What is your favorite part about your job?
A: I get to do a lot of different things. My job is very versatile … it’s never boring. I get to meet a lot of different people, which I don’t think is typical of most communications and marketing positions. I get to be out there and hear everybody’s story, which I really enjoy.

Q: What is your favorite event that Roswell Inc does or has done?
A: My favorite event is Roswell Leadership Focus. We’ve only done it once since I’ve been here, because we only do it every two years, but that was by far my favorite event that we’ve held. It was two days in Franklin, Tennessee, and I liked the work that lead up to it. I did a booklet that had the agenda for the trip and informed people about it, and it’s probably one of my biggest projects that I’ve done here so far. I also really enjoyed going to another city and seeing what they were doing and how we could learn from each other.
